Though it is seventy years since the Telugu cinema was born, certain traditions which were born then were being followed till recently. One among them is the formulaic structure for stories of star heroes and owing to different factors like fans, buyer market and others, even the stars didn’t budge much from formula.
However, some bright days are now coming in store for Tollywood because the big league stars are showing some mercy. Truth is, only when stars decide to break out of the regular image, great films happen. Due credit must be given to Chiranjeevi who did Rudraveena, Swayamkrushi and Apadbandhavudu.
Then came victory Venkatesh with movies like Swarnakamalam, Drushyam , Pawan Kalyan with Gopala Gopala, Nagarjuna with Annamayya, Sri Ramadasu and Nandamuri Balakrishna with Aditya 369, Sriramarajyam. The latest in that list is Mahesh Babu with Srimanthudu. Bottomline is, only if the stars resort to experimental formula such subjects will work and increase the quality of Tollywood.
