Samantha is one of the star heroines in the Tollywood film industry. The actress is currently looking forward to sign back to back films in the new year. Apart from a Tamil film, she also signed a Telugu movie Shakuntalam, in the direction of Gunasekhar. Shakuntalam is a prestigious project that will explore the relationship of Shakuntala and Dushyanta.

Initially, Gunasekhar considered a lot of actors to play the male lead in the film. It seems like the telugu actors did not show any interest in the film. There are reports that Gunasekhar reportedly approached Dulquer Salmaan to play the lead role in the movie. His performance in Mahanati might have resulted in the director approaching the actor.

Dulquer Salmaan is yet to give his final decision for the film. He is also working on a film in the direction of Hanu Raghavapudi.
