In a surprising turn of events, Shruti Haasan has decided to step away from her upcoming English movie, "Chennai Story," directed by filmmaker Philip John. This revelation comes shortly after Samantha Ruth Prabhu's departure from the project, leaving the film's future uncertain.

According to insider reports obtained exclusively by Pinkvilla, Shruti Haasan recently commenced filming for "Chennai Story" but has now chosen to withdraw from the production for reasons undisclosed. The sudden exit of both leading actresses has cast a shadow over the project, leaving fans and industry insiders curious about its future direction.

"Chennai Story" was set to be a romantic comedy featuring Viveik Kalra alongside Shruti Haasan. The film, based on Timeri N Murari's 2004 novel "The Arrangements of Love," follows the journey of a Tamil bisexual detective named Anu as she assists a Welsh-Tamil man in his quest to find his father.

Originally, Samantha Ruth Prabhu was slated to play the lead role in the film, as announced by the director several years ago. However, her departure led to Shruti Haasan's involvement in the project, only for her to exit as well. With two prominent actresses stepping away, speculation abounds regarding the future casting choices and the overall fate of "Chennai Story."

This development also marks Shruti Haasan's second English film venture after her 2023 release "The Eye," co-starring Mark Rowley. While the production team has yet to announce a replacement for Haasan, the sudden vacancies left by two of Tamil cinema's leading ladies have stirred anticipation and intrigue within the industry.
