'Gripping and Introspective'- Jyothi Lakshmi Music Review

Jyothi Lakshmi is an upcoming drama film starring the talented Charmee Kaur, Brahmanandam, Satya  in lead roles. The film is directed by versatile filmmaker Puri Jagannadh known for his fearless portrayal of characters. Music is composed by Sunil Kashyap and interestingly, ace and eminent lyricist Bhaskarabhatla holds 'single card' for this hatke album. Here is an iQlik exclusive audio review of the album:

The peculiar album begins with title track Jyoti Lakshmi in the sultry voice of Uma Neha. It is well equipped with fun moments, gripping rhythm and brilliance in presentation. The lyrics are funky with a musical narrative and the song undoubtedly has a foot tapping factor which is inevitable for a Puri Jagannadh’s film album.

Ninuchudaga is an entertaining fusion style track with Hemachandra’s powerful and classy vocals taking the front seat. Having the shades of Hindustani Raag Jog, the track is replete with ample rhythm section and strange classical flavor intermixed with contemporary touch. The masterstroke occurs with Hip Hop riffs are complemented with mandolin touches with neat style.

It is time to shift gears for a groovy number Choosindhi Chaalu in Spanish rumba styled guitar and Sravana Bhargavi does a wonderful job with her silky vocals. The laid back rhythm section works like magic when intermingled with the lovely guitar strokes. Timely bass work changes add like an icing on the cake.

An emotional duet Voddhoddhu arrives next with impressive tamil chorus sung well by lead vocalists Venu and Pranavi. The interludes are well presented with Indian Classical essence juxtaposed with modern sounding. However it is the female singer Pranavi who takes over the track with confident expressions.

Kanti Paape is an introspective solo which takes a journey about life of a woman who has witnessed struggles. The angry string section rightfully joins the track with great ease and vigor. Recurring rhythm acts like an additional take off for this impressive number. In short, it takes the listener to an eerie world of reality and stunning truth.

The album takes an aggressive turn with Chetiki Gaajulu which attempts to strike on feminism in the Hard Rock way. Shravana Bhargavi does a commendable job with her husky vocals. This track speaks on behalf of equality in women and how to gain back strength by asking for it and Bhaskarabhatla's lyrics add great value to the song.

An interesting finale occurs with Raja Raja- a peppy number sung by the talented singer Uma Neha once again. It is a typical mass number well equipped with rhythm section and much needed thump. It gives the commercial dimension for this off beat styled album.

Verdict:

Jyothi Lakshmi is an interesting album which touches on many aspects of life such as feminism, prostitution and introspection in the musical Puri Jagannath style!
