Finally Censor Board Wings Cut

In what can be called a big blow to the Central Board of Film Certification, the Government of India has decided to regularize the functions of the censor board.

Going into the details, the Information & Broadcasting Ministry of India has been planning to come up with a new Cinematography Act limiting the CBFC role to mere certification than censoring and suggesting cuts. The central government is planning to provide more provisions for film certification as well.

In the wake of increasing controversies over the board right from the Udta Punjab issue, this new Cinematograph Act is raising new hopes for film activists.

As per latest reports, the government is in firm plans to introduce this new bill in the upcoming winter session of Parliament. Let us wait if we can see a new CBFC in near future.
