The year 2014 seems to be a milestone year for Tollywood. This marks the 25th year of the cult blockbuster Shiva which created a new era in Telugu cinema. Now, 2014 has got another credit as it marks the tenth year of the film Anand directed by soft spoken filmmaker Sekhar Kammula.
‘Anand’ is a celebration for Independent Filmmakers. Apparently, it is the first independent film to become a blockbuster in Telugu screen. It arrived with an offbeat version, comprised of new stars among the new generation. Even the director was a debutante and the entire feel of the film was something not experienced before.
‘Anand’ came amidst a flood of commercial potboilers and though it released six months late than planned, the promotion was done aggressively. The icing on the cake was, ‘Anand’ became ultimate musical hit and this was something never expected from a small budget project from an independent filmmaker. Kudos to ‘Anand’ and team!
