Tamil Superstar Vijay and Samantha starrer Kaththi is the much awaited movie in both Kollywood and Tollywood as well. But, the movie’s release has turned highly controversial now.
Lyca Productions (the producers of Kaththi) is a company run by Sri Lankans with unproven links with the war crime accused Sri Lankan leader Mahinda Rajapaksa. This has triggered the controversy. A political outfit named Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi has been protesting against the release of the film citing the Sri Lankan connection. According to latest reports, Sathyam Cinemas and Woodlands theatres in Royapettah, Chennai where Kaththi was scheduled to release were also attacked by some unidentified group a short while ago.
While the producers are unwilling to release the film without their name, advance bookings all over the world are on full swing. However, meetings between distributors and theater owners are in progress and they are yet to arrive on an amicable solution.
On the other hand, concerns over Kaththi are being expressed all over.
“What is happening to vijay n murugadas 's KATHTHi Is unfortunate. What ever the reason. Pls don't mix politics to cinema. Not fair at all” tweeted senior actor Prakash Raj.
The movie is scheduled to release here on the 31st of October.
