It was the year 2001. The young filmmaker Srinu Vaitla was in testing state with his earlier film Nee Kosam not fetching much popularity among the masses. The director reinvented himself by penning a youthful love story which also has the right comedy ingredients and perfect entertainment values. The film is none other than Aanandam which had newcomers Aakash and Rekha in lead roles.

Ushakiran Movies headed by Ramoji Rao readily agreed to produce this flick as they were zooming in with success from small films like Chitram and Nuvve Kavali then. However, Aanandam is best remembered for the epic ‘Rambabu’ comedy scene which was pioneered by ace comedian MS Narayana. The scene featured a group of young tenants teasing the owner played by MSNarayana in a hilarious fashion.

This one particular scene became so famous in Tollywood that Srinu Vaitla had such scene in almost every film of his starting with Aanandam. The scene became a trendsetter in Tollywood comedy as it was repeated by Srinu Vaitla almost with every star hero ranging from Ravi Teja till Mahesh Babu.

Nobody can forget the song “Piya Tu Ab to Aaja” being played when a pained MS Narayana dances on glass panes as per the crazy plan of the tenants in Aanandam!
