Takkari Donga story at a glance

Raja (Mahesh Babuis a thief who works on the tips of a goon Veeru Dada (Ashok Kumar) in looting banks where they share the loot. In the flash back, Shaka (Rahul Dev) kills his own brother for particular information, which is also known to Veeru Dada. In the encounter Veeru Dada escapes. And in present, Veeru Dada realizes that Shaka would kill him soon. Hence, Veeru Dada offers a big diamond to Raja and asks him to escort her daughter Bhuvana (Lisa Ray) to his brother Dharma's place. Rest of the story is about how Shaka reaches Veeru dada and will he trace out the information.

    The movie was by then, the most expensive film made in Telugu. Super Star Krishna pioneered several cow boy films, when his son Mahesh is making one, expectations are quite common. But the movie did not go well with the masses and finally ended up as an average grosser.

    • K.S. Rama Rao was supposed to produce this film under the direction of Jayant. But later the director-hero duo changed the subject of the film from a love story to cowboy genre film that took K.S. Rama Rao off the picture. That's how Takkari Donga was born.
    • ‘Takkari Donga – Chakkani Chukka’ was the initially considered title. Later it was cut short to Takkari Donga.
    • This movie was dubbed into Hindi as Choron Ka Chor.
