Asadhyudu (1968) story at a glance

With the success of Goodhachari 116, the entire Telugu Film Industry’s eyes were on Krishna. Producers who earlier thought it is risk to invest on an upcoming hero found confidence in the actor and wanted to make more such detective based films. Upayam lo Apaayam, Nenantene come under this category. The first film which became successful in this series was Asadhyudu. Pahilwan Nellore Kantha Rao who was the owner of Kanakamahalakshmi Theatre in Nellore turned an actor mainly in villain roles in Telugu Cinema. He became producer as well by dubbing Server Sundaram from Tamil into Telugu and the first straight film in Telugu was Asadhyudu. Arudra wrote the script keeping the Krishna’s James Bond image clearly in mind.

Story Details:
The film is typically an out and out James Bond style film involving chases, stunts, adventures and great performances.  The glamour quotient of the female lead was well adorned by K.R.Vijaya. The story is a typical Heroic film where the Hero (Krishna) finds out about the property disputes in his family, chasing for the culprits, getting them to the court of law and having a love story with the heroine (K.R.Vijaya) in between.

Performances:
Krishna is very good in the stylish James Bond image hero character. His histrionics are well captured by the director and Arudra’s story gives him a good scope to perform. K.R.Vijaya is alright as the female lead.  Nellore Kantha Rao, the producer of the film also has a role in the film. Mukkamala, Gummadi, Vanisri, Chalam, Roja Ramani and Ramaprabha suit their roles perfectly.

Technical Aspects:
The biggest asset for the film is Arudra’s story. He captured the James Bond essence quite well to suit the Telugu Audience.  Music by T.Chalapathi Rao is another plus point with songs like Chittemma Chinnamma, Chavataayenu Nenu, Vellagaligithe Vellu became highly popular. Direction by V.Ramachandra Rao is quite good.
