Sri Krishna Satya story at a glance

Jamuna is one actress who is immediately remembered for her portrayal of mythological character Satyabhama on Telugu Silver Screen. But Jayalitha took an interesting challenge of portraying the same role with her own style and poise- without getting influenced by Jamuna’s histrionics. She acted par excellence in a role which involves haughtiness, anger, sweetness and lovable nature at the same time. After Sri Krishna Vijayam, it was the second time Jayalalitha acted in a mythological film. This is the last film of K.V.Reddy who made an eternal classic like Mayabazar. After Uma Chandi Gowri Shankarula Kadha failing at the Box Office during the year 1968, K.V.Reddy was quite depressed. He was in dire financial crisis and at the same time his son had to leave for US to study further. A worried K.V.Reddy explained his situation to Sr.NTR.  The legendary actor was moved to see a director who has given him greatest blockbusters like Paatala Bhairavi and Mayabazar approaching him now in trouble. Sr.NTR immediately arranged the finances for K.V.Reddy’s son to leave for US. Instead of treating it like a debt or humanitarian help, Sr.NTR asked the director to consider it as the remuneration for their next film. Sr.NTR always had two or three scripts which were ready to hit the sets and he chose this film’s script. He decided to make the film from his own production house in order to help K.V.Reddy and it shows the magnanimous nature of the actor. K.V.Reddy was a high BP and Diabetic during the film’s shooting and wasn’t having even proper eye sight. Sr.NTR helped him out in the directional department as well and credited his name in the title cards.

Story Details:
In the incarnation of Lord Rama (Sr.NTR) era after the killing of Ravana, a Vishnu devotee named Chandrasena (Jayalalitha) adores Sri Rama and asks him to accept her as his wife. But as Rama is one woman man in the current life he is in, he gives her the boon that her wish would be fulfilled when he will be born again as Lord Krishna.

Lord Vishnu (Sr.NTR)is reborn as Sri Krishna in the next era and Satyabhama (Jayalalitha) becomes his most favorite wife out of his eight wives. He marries her in the famous Samanthakamani incident and in order to please her mood, he brings the precious Paarijata Tree from the Heavens. Lord Krishna plans to teach a lesson to Satyabhama and make her realize that he is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu be joining hands with Naarada (Kantha Rao)and performs the Sri Krishna Tulabharam incident. This film also features the romantic episodes between Krishna and Satyabhama, Krishna’s relationship with the Paandava brothers and the diplomatic gestures done by the Lord.

Performances:
Sr.NTR is extravagant in three different roles such as Lord Krishna, Raavana and Lord Rama in the film. He effortlessly brings life to all these contrasting roles with great perfection. Jayalalitha is extremely good as Satyabhama – a haughty woman with beauty and poise. Kantha Rao is very good as Naarada. SVR does a great job as Mairaavana in one timeline and Duryodhana in another. Devika is perfect as the mellowed Rukmini.

Technical Aspects:
Dialogues by Pingali Nagendra Rao are more than perfect for a mythological themed film of this sort. Music is one of the biggest assets for this film with songs liked Priya Priya Madhuram, Alaka Maanave, Chilakala Kolikiro, Maata Meeragalada Satyavathi, Bhale Manchi Chowka Beramu, Chandana Charchita, Kalagantine, and Govardhana Giri becoming all time hits. The poems from Tirupati Venkatakavulu’s stage drama Pandavodyoga Vijayalu were used appropriately in the film. Marcus Bartley’s cinematography in color is an added attraction. Direction by K.V.Reddy is at his usual best.
