Tamil Superstar Vijay’s Puli and Prabhas Baahubali are two most anticipated high budget South Indian films of this season. Both the films not only carried huge expectations but indeed comparisons as well. Fans of both the films Baahubali started bragging over the records their favorite films would break. Baahubali released this 10th July and turned out to be a never-seen-before phenomenal hit and now it’s the turn of Puli.

Unlike Baahubali, Puli did not have smooth release in all the languages. The early shows of the Tamil version were cancelled and the Telugu version’s release stalled for almost a day. Still the Tamil version managed to rake around Rs 21 crores on the first day becoming the second Tamil film after Shankar’s I. But the negative reviews and divided talk increased the hype and curiosity over the film. Hence the Telugu version that released on Oct 2 (night shows alone) in about 450 screens initially saw a surprising demand of 250 screens/day. The Telugu producers SVR Media have even organized a success meet and confirmed the same. In the other part of the world, Puli has reportedly broken the record of Baahubali already.

Well this is in Chennai where Baahubali (both Telugu & Tamil) collected over Rs 1.6 crores from 363 shows that was recently surpassed by Puli that is estimated to have minted over Rs 2.8 crores from about 460 shows. This shows the sheer star power of Superstar Vijay which is estimated to show effect this week as well. However, the feat what a Telugu film like Baahubali created in Chennai is certainly commendable, say trade pundits. Let’s wait and see how far this league goes!
