Tagline: Watch it for Nani

Plot:

Aditya (Nani) comes to Hyderabad from Bhimavaram  and works as an assistant to SS Rajamouli. He meets Suma (Priyasri) here and the latter finds him quite good. She falls in love with Aditya and confesses the same to him. But Aditya tells her that he is already in love with another girl back in Bhimavaram. She is none other than Kiran (Anu Emmanuel). Though Kiran loves Aditya, she moves away from him due to misunderstandings. Why did they move apart? What would happen to Suma? How would Aditya deal with this tricky situation?- forms the rest of the plot.

Performances:

Nani: It is an out and one man show by him as promised. He could pull off a normal story with unique antics and body language. The movie may not be a plus for him but he is definitely a plus for the film!

Anu Emmanuel and Priyashri: The industry is fortunate to get two new actresses now. They acted quite well in their character’s limit. However, it is Anu who scores higher. Priyasri looked graceful and stylish in modern dresses as well. She should take better care on dialogues and modulation.

Posani, Vennela Kishore: Vennela Kishore offers highest entertainment in the film after Nani. He generated great laughter with his comedy timing. Posani’s punches in the first half work well. Rajamouli’s cameo is seen in the first half and it is done quite well. Raj Tarun’s cameo in the end is another highlight.

Analysis:

After gaining much appreciation with debut film Uyyala Jampala, Virinchi Varma came up with this film. Uyyala Jampala doesn’t have a strong story but the narrative is quite impressive. He followed the same formula in Majnu as well. Majnu doesn’t have a big story but the storytelling, Nani’s chemistry with the heroines and dialogues are a biggest plus. The sequences sound routine but the treatment is unique. Nani’s love story in Bhimavaram is quite entertaining and fun. Four songs arrive in just an hour of the film’s runtime but the placement is quite good. We cannot spot the exact reason for Aditya and Kiran’s break up.

The first half is dependent on sensitive scenes and the second half relies on entertainment. Without Nani, the film would have been difficult to relish. The second half drags a bit with routine comedy but the director comes back to form during climax. However, the drag does its job by then.

Music:

Gopi Sundar’s music is a huge plus for this film. The songs are already a hit and the linkup with storyline in the second half is even good. However, the background music is overdone at times.

Camerawork:

Gnanasekhar’s camera shows the film in colorful note throughout. Visual beauty is greatly reflected. The film looks rich in visuals in every frame.

Merits:
- Nani’s Performance
- Comedy sequences
- Storytelling
- Music

De-Merits:
- Routine story
- Dragging second half

Others:

Virinchi Varma doesn’t impress as much as his earlier film with Majnu. It must be because of the extreme pressure he faced after the success of Uyyala Jampala. If Majnu is seen as a fresh film without expectations, it is quite entertaining.

Verdict:

Majnu is a fresh film with natural sequences and Nani makes the film even more entertaining with his antics.
