Recently, Kangana Ranaut made shocking comments about India's freedom struggle. Speaking at a new channel's event, Kangana said that the freedom attained in 1947 was a 'bheek' and the real freedom was achieved in 2014. This clip went viral all over social media. Both netizens and politicians slammed the actress for making such insensitive comments.

Various leaders of the Indian National Congress (INC) lashed out at Kangana for her statements and requested the President of India to take back the Padma Shri Award which she was honored with, recently.

Former Union Minister and INC leader Anand Sharma called Kangana's statements shocking and outrageous. "Shocking and outrageous. Ms Kangana Ranaut’s statement heaping insult on the courageous freedom fighters led by Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, and Sardar Patel but also belittled the sacrifices of revolutionaries like Sardar Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekar Azad, and several others," he tweeted.

"Hon'ble @rashtrapatibhvn should immediately take back the Padma award given to Ms Ranaut. Psychiatric evaluation should be carried out before giving such awards so that such persons do not dishonour the nation and its heroes," he further added.

Sharma also demanded Prime Minister Modi break the silence on Kangana's statement and take legal action against her.

"Kangana Ranaut's statement show’s what happens when people who are not deserving of Padma awards are given these honours. The government should take back the prestigious Padma award from her," stated INC's spokesperson Gourav Vallabh.
