Though they are perceived as somewhat similar there is a vast difference between dialogue writing and translating. Yes, the latter also requires a lot of creativity because it requires you to have a strong grip over nativity and you must be adept at coming up with words which fit the nativity element but then dialogue writing and translation are different.
The reason for this topic comes up is due to the movie ‘Hello’ featuring Akkineni Prince Akhil. Recently a media interaction took place and producer ‘King’ Akkineni Nagarjuna who is an exceptional speaker fumbled. The reason being, an element of confusion regarding the actual dialogue writer for this movie.
While Akhil maintained it was Kittu Vissapragada, Nag added there was also another girl and again Akhil corrected it was only Kittu. Well, it is heard that actually it was Vikram Kumar who wrote the dialogues in English and it was eventually translated by these two people. That way, the authentic dialogue writers seem to have become translators.
