As a result of this small budget Indian movies are getting selected for different film festivals all across the world. They are getting appreciation all over the world. To provide them with this international platform India also organizes an international film festival where the screenings of certain selected movies from India as well as other countries take place. Recently there has been a controversy regarding the selection of movies for this festival.
An Idea about IFFI
IFFI or the international film festival of India is an annual film festival of India which is held each year in Goa which is a beach state. This festival had its origin in the year 1952. Since then it has been annually held for the screening of special movies which are highly praised by the critics and made with a deep thinking. The movies are selected from a wide range of movies from all over the world and those which have a message of friendship and love in the society are given more preference. This festival pays tribute to the true art of film making and the films which are generally selected to provide an artistic approach to the daily cultural and social life of a nation and is closer to reality. Many small budgeted films or a short film which are not popular gets selected at this festival. In the recent years the festival has got some mainstream attention by inaugurating it with superstars like Shahrukh Khan and Akhshay Kumar. It is one of the biggest film festivals of Asia.
Reason for Not Selecting Telegu Films
IFFI decided not to screen any popular or commercial film in this year’s festival which will begin on 20th November. This decision has made it impossible for any telugu movie to get selected for this festival. The Telegufilmmakers make films only for the purpose of making it commercially successful and for that purpose they make movies full of action, drama, dance,song, comedy etc. which has no connection at all with reality. Thought this film gains huge commercial success and makes the filmmakers lot of money, still they do not get any place at the film festival. For a long time no Telegu film is getting screened in this festival although almost 200 films have been made in tollywood each year. Malayalam, Tamil and Kannad movies also managed to take their place in this festival. But the formulae based Telegu films were not good enough to get selected.
