“I have made wrong choices in this life, and I was broken and my family was depending on me and there was some other good causes. I was helpless, and with no option left to choose, I got involved to this act. I am not the only one who faced this problem “the horrific dark side of glamorous and charming Bollywood, Shweta Basu Prasad was arrested on 31 August Sunday for her involvement with a prostitution racket. The same girl who stole our hearts with her performance in Makdee as a child artist and receiving a National Film Award for Best Child Artist for her role in the film. She also acted in a few TV serials like Kahani Ghar Ghar ki and critically acclaimed films like Iqbaal. Shweta was arrested from a luxury hotel at Banjara hills in Hyderabad.
The actress will be send to a rescue home run by the woman and Child welfare group and will remain there for a period of 3 months. The sad part of the incident is that even after all these days of her arrest, she continues to make headlines. But what about those business persons or the persons who were arrested with her, The law remains in complete silence about them, so is this what you get for being an artist, being a celebrity and I am in no way supporting Shweta, surely she could have got a better job outside the industry of fame, fashion and money called cinema.
May be the idea of luxury caught her or maybe she never wanted her normal life back only Shweta knows, This is another type of moral policing and woman bashing, especially when she is a celebrity. Yes she was caught doing prostitution, was itself satiating act? No. It was with a few men who are famous business men. Why her name was publicized and their names kept under cover? Why were they shielded by police and also media? Media which cries hoarse on female harassment day in and day out should take the same responsibility to expose those men involved, so that such things do not repeat.
So what’s next for her, with all those talent in her, will Bollywood welcome her back, If Sunny leone was appreciated by both our industry and people then we hope and pray they do it with Shwetha who is a supremely talented actress. And this leads to another question why can’t be prostitution legal in our country , the people have responded criticizing our media and journalism for their shameful way of highlighting the women rather than those people who were involved and is sex such a bad thing , we live in a world where war is celebrated , making love is suppressed . With Hansal Mehta who is known for his film Shahid for which he won Best Director at National Film Awards tweeting his willing we hope Sweta makes to the big stage, for her talents she certainly deserves a better headline in our dailies.
