Career Graph

Genelia made his debut in 2003, at the age of 16, in a Bollywood movie Tujhe Meri Kasam with Riteish Deshmukh. Simultaneously, she was doing two other films – Boys in Tamil and Satyam in Telugu. She was critically acclaimed right from the beginning of her career.

The turning point in her life came in Tollywood, where she won the Filmfare award for best actress in 2006 for her romantic film Bommarillu. She did 4 back to back films that year and shot to instant fame across the country.

Her success down south grabbed eyes in Mumbai and soon she was roped in by Aamir Khan Productions to play Aditi in Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa opposite debutante Imran Khan. She became a national heartthrob overnight.

She has been a regular in southern as well as Bollywood movies since. Her last lead role being in a Telugu film Na Ishtam in 2012.

Marriage and Family

Soon after tying the knot with Riteish; Genelia “took a break” from the film industry. Their marriage followed years of courtship. The couple announced the birth of their first child Riaan on 25th November, 2014.

Genelia said in a recent press conference that her husband has always been supportive about what she wanted to do. And he had no qualms with her coming back to the film industry.

What lies ahead?

Anyone who thought settling down would be an obstacle for the chocolate girl was proved wrong. Genelia and Riteish have already produced a Marathi film. She stated they are also open to the idea of producing a mainstream Bollywood film.

Rumors are, she has three Bollywood movies lined up; including a David Dhawan film called Hook Ya Crook and the remake of Bommarillu by Anees Bazmee titled It’s My Life to be produced by Boney and Sridevi Kapoor.

Apparently, Genelia is also looking forward to starring in a Marathi film produced by Riteish. Earlier she did a dance cameo in one of Riteish’s Marathi films, Lai Bhaari, which also saw Salman Khan do a cameo.

It looks like she has struck a good balance between her family and profession. Who in their right mind wouldn’t want Genelia back where she belongs? A comeback is on the cards, as she herself has stated. It still remains to be seen when it actually materializes. It has been a long time since her fans were last charmed by her on the big screen.
