Balupu review

“Ravi Teja still has fat!“

Posted: 28 June 2013-08:26 AM

Shruti (Shruti Hassan) and her uncle Crazy Mohan (Brahmanandham) fool men in the name of love just for the sake of fun and kick. In one of the occasion, they make Ravi's (Ravi Teja) friend as bakra. In order to teach them a lesson, Ravi acts as if in love with her. With the interference of Ravi's father, Mohan Rao (Prakash Raj), their game goes up to marriage and it was then a shocking flashback about Ravi and Mohan Rao is revealed. Rest of the story is about who are they and what are they up to.

Ravi Teja is at his usual best once again. He gave his 100% for the role and he also looked very fit and trim for his age. Shruti Hassan gets a role with substance and she pulled it off very well. She looked ultra glamorous and is her sensuous best in songs. Anjali gets a little role as a doctor but is a perfect fit. Lakshmi Rai sizzled in the introduction shot and the song will lure the masses.

Brahmanandham rocked the show as Crazy Mohan. The scenes between Brahmi, Ravi Teja and Shruti in the first half rocked the show. Prakash Raj is verstaile in a character with two different shades. Ali as Doctor Savitri did not bring much laughter. Ashutosh Rana is okay as villain. Nasser does not have much to do in the movie.

Gopichand Malineni is one director who sticks well to the principle of mass movies and achieve success. Balupu is his best work so far especially the interval bang and the twist in it are interestingly canned. He exploited the strengths of Ravi Teja to the maximum extent. Forget about the novelty, logic but he has pulled the third commercial hit on a trot.

He embedded few referrences to Pawan Kalyan here and there. May be to garner the support of Mega fans. However, he should not have kindalled Balakrishna's speech problem in one of the scenes. Also it is strange to see how some of the double meaning dialogues like 'Erri Pulka' escaped Censor scissors.

Ravi Teja has to seriously take care of the songs in all his music albums. If we mix up all the songs in his recent movies, it will be difficult for a normal person to tell which song is of which movie. The tunes are becoming routine and the same picturization erecting a simple back ground set. Thaman's back ground music is good though.

The script work and screen play by Kona Venkat is really good. They pulled out some kind of freshness in the script this time even though it is a routine mass masala. Cinematography by  Jaynan Vincent is good. Editing (by Gautham Raju) in the second half especially the love track between Ravi Teja and Anjali could have been better. Fights by Stun Siva are okay.

Balupu does not promise some thing big or out of box content in it. It is a regular mass masala but is very well made. Except for a bit of lag in the second half, the movie is throughly entertaining due to some excellent comedy. Pakka Paisa Vasool.
