Jeevitha Chakram story at a glance

The beginning of 70s decade marked the trend of films having one hero and two female leads. In the first quarter of the year 1971, there were films like Dasara Bullodu (Starring ANR-Vanisri-Chandrakala), Pavitra Bandham (ANR-Vanisri-Kanchana) began this unique trend. It was continued with Jeevita Chakram starring Sr.NTR, Vanisri and Sarada. This is a memorable film in the acting careers of Vanisri and Sarada respectively. Vanisri acted brilliantly as the responsible woman stuck in family troubles. Sarada on the other hand played the role of an innocent village woman who falls for the hero and dreams of getting married to him, unaware that he is already in love with Vanisri’s character.

Story Details:
Suseela (Vanisri) is a middle class woman and her father (Ramana Reddy) and brother (Padmanabham) are quite lazy without any responsibility. Her mother is bed ridden and in order to look after the family, Suseela becomes a working lady.  Cut from there to a village backdrop where an affluent couple (Perumal, Hemalatha) have a beautiful daughter named Kamala (Sarada). She is head over heels in love with her uncle’s son  Raja (Sr.NTR) who studies abroad.  Raja’s father  (Nagaiah) is a rich man who plans to give all the business responsibilities to his son as soon as the latter returns home. Kamala’s parents also plan to get their daughter married to Raja the moment he is back. At this juncture, Raja returns to India and he meets Suseela in dramatic circumstances. He starts feeling sorry for her when he hears about her family troubles. This sympathy slowly turns to love.  In this crucial moment Kamala, who loves Raja with all her heart gets bed ridden due to illness. Raja reaches the village when Kamala is almost in fatal condition and realizes her love for him. He marries her with the good intention of giving her happiness by fulfilling her last wish. But things turn different after the marriage. Kamala miraculously recovers from her illness and she becomes mentally as well as physically fit. Raja gets stuck in between his Kamala and his love Sussela because of this shocking change. He gets very upset and finds it tough to be affectionate towards his wife and at the same time worry about his love Suseela. Kamala and Suseela come to know about this fact and decide to sacrifice their respective love. But Suseela being a balanced woman decides to go away and live single by understanding the greatness of relationship between Kamala and Raja.

Performances:
Vanisri is wonderful as the working woman, the lady in family trouble, a passionate lover and an understanding person later. She shares a great chemistry with her co-star Sr.NTR and looks great opposite him in songs. She gives a masterful performance in emotional scenes.  Sarada is amazing as the innocent rustic lady who gives her heart to the hero and innocently believes that he would marry her someday. She did a deglamorized performance during the illness stage as well.  Sr.NTR is fantastic as the hero who gets torn between his love and humanity. He shares a unique chemistry with each of his female leads- Vanisri and Sarada. Ramana Reddy and Padmanabham are very good as the irresponsible family members. Nagaiah get a tailor made role as the hero’s father. Perumal and Hemalatha are adequate as Kamala’s parents.

Technical Aspects:
Vidwan Navasree’s dialogues are perfect for a typical romantic family drama of this sort. The most successful Bollywood composers Shankar- Jaikishen scored music for this film and gave some wonderful melodious songs. Madhurati Madhuram, Sudigaali loni Deepam, Kallalo Kallu Petti Choodu (Both Male and Female versions), Kanti Choopu Chebuthondhi, Bathakamma Bathakamma Uyyalo, Suvvee Suvvee Choode Olammee became all time hits. Direction by C.S.Rao is very good with good essence of a family drama.
