Actress Kalpana (51) expired today in Hyderabad after suffering from heart failure. Kalpana is best remembered as the doting wife Leelavathi in Kamal Hassan- Balu Mahendra’s epic comedy Sathi Leelavathi.
She also generated nonstop laughter as the Malayali nurse in Kamal Hassan’s Brahmachari as well. She came all the way to Hyderabad for a Telugu film shooting and was 51 years old. Kalpana was also seen as the mother of Nivin Pauly in Malayalam blockbuster Bangalore Days. She acted in nearly 300 films in south Indian languages. The entire south Indian film industry is distraught with this news.
It is indeed rare to see female actresses who take up comedy as their biggest asset and tremendous timing which entertains the audience greatly. Compared to their male contemporaries, female comedians find it hard to make an impressive impact on the audience. Once such gifted actress who could achieve this brilliance is Malayalam actress Kalpana.
