iQlik Movies Rating: 2.5/5

Actor Vishal is waiting for the right success for a long time. In the pursuit of a hit, he has now come up with his new film Samanyudu. Directed by Thu.Pa. Saravanan, this movie has hit the screens today. We bring you the review of it.

Story:
Poras (Vishal) is a middle-class youngster who aspires to be a police officer. He falls in love with Mythali (Dimple Hayathi). Meanwhile, Poras has a sister named Dwaraka (Raveena Ravi). She gets harassed by a rookie. All of a sudden, she gets killed one day. Along with Dwaraka, a few other murders happen serially in town. How Poras unravelled the gang behind these murders form the main crux of the movie.

Performances:
We have seen Vishal doing these kinds of roles in the past. It is a tailor-made character for him and he did it with ease. He did well in the action sequences. But he looks a bit old and his age can be seen in his physique and face. Heroine Dimple Hayathi doesn't have much to contribute. She was okay in her limited role. Yogi Babu delivered some gags as the hero's friend. Raveena Ravi was decent. Rest others performed within their limitations.

Technical Departments:
We have seen many such crime thrillers in the past. Especially, Tamil filmmakers are known for making such films. Samandyudu also joins that list. But the film succeeds in keeping audiences hooked to the proceedings with its tight screenplay. Director Saravanan unfolded the things in a gripping way. Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is another advantage for the film. His background score is thumping. Kavin Raj's cinematography is decent. The artwork and production values are good too. The editing is done well.

Analysis:
Samanyudu starts off on a regular note. It proceeds like a normal commercial entertainer in the initial stages. Things get interesting when the political angle comes into the story. The way the director interlinked Vishal's sister and the political subplot is good. The first half showcases the murders and the stories of victims. The second half deals with how the hero traces out the murderers. The interval and climax sequences were written very well. They are engaging. But the cliched and overly-done action sequences and regular storyline are the letdowns of this film. On the whole, Samanyudu may attract action films lovers.

Plus Points:
Interval and Climax scenes
Screenplay
Second Half

Minus Points:
Initial scenes of the first half
Regular plot line

One Line Verdict: Passable action thriller!
