Samantha Ruth Prabhu is back on the big screen with her latest outing Yashoda. Directed by Hari and Harish, this female-oriented action thriller revolves around the surrogacy theme. It hit the screens today and here is the review of it.

Yashoda (Samantha) gets admitted to Eva Hospital which provides treatment to women opting for surrogacy. Everything looks good from the outside but there is something wrong going on in that medical facility. What is happening there? What happens when Yashoda gets involved in it? What's the role of Madhu (Varalaxmi Sarathkumar) in this tale? These factors form the main crux of the story.

Samantha can pull off these kinds of subjects with ease. We know about her performance and with The Family Man, she proved that she can pull off action scenes too. Yashoda tries to explore these two sides of her and she delivers her best.

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar gets a good role and she did well. However, her character lacks depth. Unni Mukundan plays a key role and he is decent. Rest others like Murali Sharma, Rao Ramesh and Sampath Raj have done justice to their characters.

Technical Aspects:
This is the first outing of the director duo Hari and Harish in Telugu. Their premise is good but they couldn't explore the screenplay well. As the writing becomes sloppy after a point, the thrills in the film don't excite the audience.

Music by Mani Sharma is okayish. The songs are not great but the background score is decent. M. Sukumar's cinematography is great. The visuals look rich due to the cinematography and production values. The editing is adequate.

Yashoda starts off really well. The initial portions really hook us to the proceedings. But things take a dip once Samantha's story kicks off. Though there are twists and turns, those thrills are dominated by the action part. Thus, audiences get bored after a while.

The first half is interesting with interesting hooks and thrills. But once the twists get revealed in the second half, it becomes more of an action. Comparatively, the first half is better. Yashoda could have been a good action thriller if the writing was more intriguing. On the whole, it ends up as an average fare.

Plus Points:
Interval block
Story premise

Minus Points:
Twists are predictable
Second half
Lack of originality

Final Verdict: Not-So-Intriguing thriller!
