The much awaited sequel of the box office hit, Gabbar Singh has finally been launched. Gabbar Singh 2’s Muhurtham ceremony to kick start the movie’s shooting took place on Friday, the 21st of the months of February in the year 2014. The dazzling opening ceremony was held at the Venkateswara Temple in Film Nagar in Hyderabad, and it was adorned by the presence of Tollywood celebrities such as Gemini Kiran, D. Suresh Babu, producer SharatMarar’s father G. K. Marar with his wife, Chief Justice Pramod Reddy and the like. Pramod Reddy who is a close friend of both the producer, and Sampath Nandi, the director of the film, directed the first shot, and the camera was switched on by their senior producer manager. SharatMarar, producer of the project and a close friend of the leading star, PawanKalyan, confirmed to the media in an interactive conversation that the film, which was supposed to start shooting last year, can be expected to hit the floors by the month of May, while it may be released on the festival of Dusserah. It was earlier expected that the shooting would start in the month of April.
Pawan had earlier been expected to start shooting for the film right after the release of AttarintikiDaredi, but, even after 5 months had passed, he was unavailable for the shooting. However, he is finally all set to start shooting for the film. In fact, he will also be seen in the remake of the film name OMG! Oh My God, which he will be co- producing with DaggubatiVenkatesh. He was rumoured to start shooting for OMG while Sampath was still busy inspecting the script of Gabbar Singh 2.
The film is a sequel to the 2012 super hit movie, Gabbar Singh, which inspired the high- yielding Bollywood hit, Dabangg and later, Dabangg 2 was also made. Gabbar Singh starred Shruti Hassan as the female lead, romancingPawanKalyan. The team of the film, Gabbar Singh 2, had earlier spent time finding a new female lead, since the story of the film is not related to the first film’s story and is just a stand- alone fling of the Gabbar Singh franchise. Anushka Shetty of Baahubali fame, was finally zeroed in to play the lead female. Though this is a stand- alone story, the character of Gabbar Singh, the police inspector, will be the sketched with the same characteristics as in the first movie.
There are talks that the title of the movie will be changed. This is because, the film has been in a lot of controversy for being sued by the team of Sholay by Ramesh Sippy, because the name of the movie and the lead character is after the famous antagonist of the film Sholay, and Rs. 3 – 4 crore had been demanded from team Gabbar Singh for this. The film also reached the tabloid when it was PawanKalyan decided to review the script of the film. Though this issue was expected to have stirred up some heat among the cast and crew of the film, director Sampath confirmed that there was no issue about this, and in fact, expressed his satisfaction at the way the film was being worked upon as a team work.
