Kochadaiiyaan music review

What happens when two superstars of the South combine? Magic! Yes that is what has transpired between Rajnikant as the hero and A. R. Rahman’s musical genius in the 3D extravaganza that is Kochadaiyaan. There are 9 tracks in the entire film and all of them are unique and mostly situational.

Below is a list of those very tracks in order of arrival in the movie.

Kochadaiiyaan music review

  • EngaePogudhoVaanam: Sung by SP Balasubramaniam, the album’s opening song features grandeur and exceptional orchestration fortified with superior stringed interludes. The track describes the glorious life of a warrior through musical which plays along quite well with Rajni’s image and philosophies.
  • Medhuvaagathaan: This track is sung by SadhanaSargam and S P Balasubramaniam and is a perfect slow melody to bring down the pace after the power-packed fast track that marked the beginning. It has a mellifluous tune incorporated with sounds of the Sitar. The duet works wonderfully well and catches speed when joined by the mridangam, bass and strings.
  • MaattramOndrudhaanMaaraadhadhu: This is a heroic track sung by Rajnikant, Haricharan and V. Umashankar. It is a progressive rhythm with appealing orchestration which is highly engaged with sections of dialogues put in it. It is distinct, fresh and crafty.
  • ManappeninSathiyam: This track is interspersed with raagas and breezy sounds of the piano. Maand, Kaapi and Desh are some of the raagas that have been experimented with in this beautiful piece that drips traditional Indian sounds. With its classy composition and interludes of Nandaswaram the track is unforgettable to the listener.
  • Idhayam: sung by Chinmayi and Srinivas, it is a spooky track that balances the sentiments of romance and danger. It is composed in a Carnatic style and has many complex layers to it but the song has been done full justice by the mastery of Chinmayi and Srinivas’ inexplicable voices.
  • EngalKochadaiiyaan: The whole ensemble of Kochadaiyaan has lent their voices to this track. The track confirms the sounds of a number of historical instruments and a commanding chorus. The track is energetic and racy and helps the listener create an imaginary scene. This background theme is replete with exceptional sounds and well woven distortions
  • ManamaganinSathiyam: Sung byHaricharan, thisis a lilting song with an earthy sound to it. The lyrics by Vairamuthu are indeed exceptional.
  • Rana’s Dream: This extraordinary piece has been the product of London’s Session Orchestra. This is the sole instrumental of the album and is performed by a group that is internationally acclaimed. It makes the listener feel as if he is travelling through a dream world with the soothing and dreamy sounds of the viola, pan flute, string section and much more. The track has an international touch and is unfaltering.
  • Karma Veeran: And finally another track sung by A R Rahman and AR Raihanah. This symbolises the grand finale of the movie .It starts with a commanding voice accompanied by the string section and unparalleled composition. Both singers spin up a storm of heavenly delight.

For a music lover, this album is going to be a big treat.
