iQlik Movies Rating: 3/5

Director Krishna Vamshi is back after a long time with his new outing Ranga Marthanda. Starring Prakash Raj and Ramya Krishnan in the lead roles, this movie hit the screens today on the occasion of Ugadi. Here is the review of it.

Story:
Raghava Rao (Prakash Raj) is a legendary theatre artist and is honored with the title Ranga Marthanda. One day, he decides to retire from his profession to spend quality time with his family members. However, his family members couldn't gel well with the values of Raghava Rao. How his family dynamics changed after his retirement forms the main crux of the film.

Performances:
Prakash Raj put his heart and soul into this film. As he is an actor himself, he could get into the skin of Raghava Rao's character with utmost ease. He makes us emotional with his extraordinary performance. Ramya Krishna was excellent as Prakash Raj's wife. She has minimal dialogues but makes a big impact. Brahmanandam is the show stealer of this movie. Casting him for such a role is a masterstroke. He will bring tears to your eyes for sure. Rahul Sipligunj is good in his role and provides some laughs here and there. Shivatmika Rajashekhar needs to improve a lot in terms of acting. Aadarsh Balakrishna, Ali Reza and Anasuya were decent.

Technical Aspects:
Ranga Marthanda is an official remake of the Marathi film Natsamrat. Director Krishna Vamsi and his team of writers stuck to the original in most of the aspects. They brought in a few minimal elements to suit the nativity of Telugu audiences and those elements worked well. Music by Ilaiyaraja takes you to the vintage period of the 1980s and 90s. It must be a conscious choice by the makers. Anyway, it was pleasing to the ears. The cinematography is decent. The production values are very plastic and the lack of budget can be seen on the screen. The editing is choppy as well and so is the dubbing.

Analysis:
Ranga Marthanda is a story that exposes the lifestyle of the current generation. It shows how people are not taking care of their parents these days. It shows us the value of our parents in a very melodramatic manner. Most of the scenes are relatable and some of them will also make us emotional. Casting is the biggest advantage of this film. Almost every actor suited well to their respective characters. But Prakash Raj and Brahmanandam steal the show. On the whole, Ranga Marthanda is a heartening drama which can be watched with your family members.

Plus Points:
Casting
Performances
Emotional elements

Minus Points:
Poor production values
Choppy editing
May not appeal to the present generation of kids

One-Line Verdict: Heart-Touching Drama
