The pet phenomena!

No this is not the Puri Jagannath that you might be thinking about at first go. This is not the God at the famous Puri temple; this is about a real person who is named Puri Jagannath.

Keeping that aside for a while, what is the pet phenomenon after all? It has been rising since the last 5 years. The pet phenomenon is when top notch celebrities show off their high breed pets at award functions and the like. For eg Taylor Swift’s pet cat, ‘Meredith’ is as famous as her! Even Paris Hilton’s pet dog made it to the news a surprising number of times. Apart from this there have TV actors and celebrities who have went on record on reality shows to publicise and celebrities their pets as well. While some keep pets just so because apparently every celebrity is supposed to have one, others (their population being minuscule) love to rescue animals and provide them shelter.

Initiatives

Many celebrities have started their own foundations that aim at rescuing animals, providing them with shelter, do something about poaching, trafficking, hunting etc., others still are part of various international bodies like PETA and the likes. Point being, celebrities are passionate about their pets and use their fame and money to follow their cause.

Out of their love for animals, the naming of pets forms an important part. Many celebrities o for unique names to make their pets standout, feature in the news and create a buzz about them.

Chanel: latest addition

Puri Jagannath is one such animal lover. He has always shown interest in animals and is an avid pet lover. So much so that his former office used to teem with numerous dogs and birds. Same was the case at home also. His home has become a shelter for a host of rare birds and Puri is very proud of the fact. His love for pets is unending and hence it does not come as a surprise when recently he added a little Chihuahua to his family of pets. The cute little thing is called “chanel”

Puri has gone on record to say that he is very excited to add this smallest breed amongst dogs in his family. In addition to his den of rare fishes, monkey, talking parrots and rare birds, he has dogs like Dalmatian, Labrador and German shepherd, now there’s a Chihuahua too. He is also said to breed dogs with different breeds of pets of his friends. This is a novel way of creating cross-breeds and calls for some research into the behaviour of these new kinds of breeds.

But keeping them does not come easy. Most of these animals are imported from foreign countries and an insane amount of money goes into the maintenance, sanitation and medical expenses of these animals. Thus keeping pets is fancy but not easy monetarily. Presently Jagan is waiting eagerly for the set-work of ‘Nenorakam’. Once it is completed, soon it will be ready to showcase around the time of Sankranti and hence a rapid wrap up is necessary.
