Yami Gautam made her Television debut in 2008 when debutted in Chand Ke Paar Chalo. She was noted for her performance in the soap operas like Chand Ke Paar Chalo and Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam. She took part in the reality shows like Kitchen Champion Season 1 and Meethi Choori No. 1.

Yami entered the film industry in 2010 through the Kannada film, Ullasa Utsaha which later turned out to be a dud at the box office. She made a silent debut in Tollywood with Ravi Babu's Nuvvila in 2011 but the movie also failed to bring her the much needed success. Finally the big break came to her in the form of her maiden Bollywood film, Vicky Donor. The film won not only laurels from audience and critics but also several awards including the prestigious Filmfare. Currently Yami is enjoying a good run there with back to back offers.

In 2012, she made a comeback to Telugu film industry opposite Allu Sirish in his debut film, Gauravam. The movie failed miserably at the box office and pegged her career back once again. And later there was Yuddham starring Tarun which she acted in her early days but misfired after it released several years later.  She is currently acting in a bilingual film (in Telugu and Tamil), Courier Boy Kalyan which is yet to release.  

• During the shoot of Nuvvila, Yami Gautam reportedly narrated a horror experience of her in Mumbai to the director Ravi Babu. The actress’ story inspired Ravi Babu to make a film on paranormal activity titled ‘Avunu’. Ravi Babu wanted to cast Yami in the lead role but could not do so due to dates problem.
