iQlik Movies Rating: 3.5/5

'Arjun Reddy' movie became a blockbuster in Tollywood and made Vijay Devarakonda an overnight sensation. Directed by Sandeep Vanga, the movie became one of the path-breaking films in Tollywood. Now, it is known that the director is now remaking the film in Hindi with the title 'Kabir Singh'. Shahid Kapoor is reprising Vijay Devarakonda's role in the film whereas Kiara Advani is playing the female lead. Bankrolled by Cine 1 Studios and T-series, the expectations on the movie are very high. Amid high hopes, the film has finally hit the screens today on June 21st 2019. Can 'Kabir Singh' recreate the same magic like 'Arjun Reddy' at the box office? Let's see.

Story:

Kabir Singh (Shahid Kapoor) is an aggressive, obsessive person who can go to any extremes for the people he loves. He falls in love with a first-year medical student Preeti (Kiara Advani). It was love at first sight for him and they soon get into a relationship. But things change when Preeti's father opposes their marriage and makes Preeti marry another guy. Kabir feels like he has hit the rock bottom and becomes a raging alcoholic and a drug addict. Despite this, he continues to be a surgeon. Can Kabir ever be able to outlive his past? How Kabir redeems his inner self? forms the rest of the story.

Performances:

Shahid Kapoor is undoubtedly the show stealer for this film. The actor has delivered his career-best performance and his impeccable acting skills will definitely steal the attention. Shahid is terrific in his role and breathes life into his character. He fits perfectly well into the shoes of Kabir Singh. Kiara Advani looked effortlessly beautiful in the film. She doesn't have much scope for performance in the film but Kiara has justified her role. Arjan Bajwa got an interesting role in this film and he has delivered his best performance. Suresh Oberoi acted naturally and went under the skin of the character. Kamini Kaushal is too good in her role. Adil Hussain, Nikita Dutta etc also made their presence felt.

Technical Aspects:

As Sandeep Vanga himself is the one who helmed the original version, the director succeeded in protecting the soul of the film. He tried his best to recreate the same 'Arjun Reddy' magic with 'Kabir Singh'. The director has only made a few changes to the original script but made the movie another masterpiece. He has succeeded in reproducing the film with the same intensity. Production values by Cine 1 Studios and T-series are outstanding. The rich production values can be considered as one of the major highlights. The music in the movie is also excellent. Especially the background score by Harshvardhan Rameshwar elevated emotions in the film really well. Cinematographer Santhana Krishnan Ravichandran is beautiful. He has produced quality visuals for the film. Editing by Aarif Shaikh is just average.

Review:

When it comes to remakes of such cult films, the expectations will be very high. In that way, 'Kabir Singh' will definitely reach the expectations. The movie opens with Shahid Kapoor as a self-destructive lover Kabir Singh. The story slowly moves to the flashback where Kabir Singh's ladylove Preeti (Kiara Advani) enters the scene and their beautiful love story unfolds. The director hasn't made many changes to the script which also helped the story to be easily relatable for each and every one. The first half is somewhat slow when compared to the second half. The entire first half is filled with the character establishments and nothing great happens in the story. The actual storyline starts in the second half where the audience can actually connect with the film. Overall, 'Kabir Singh' is a must watch the film.

Plus Points:

Performances
Direction
Dialogues
BGM

Minus Points:

Not many might like too many Lip-Lock Scenes

Final Verdict:
Kabir Singh ReCreates Magic of Arjun Reddy!
