The Indian film fraternity knows director AR Murugadoss as a filmmaker who is not only capable of delivering huge box office hits but also make films that address various prevalent social issues with scripts that have a core theme or message. His film ‘Maan Karate’ is a film based on such a script. It featured Siva Karthikeyan, who is a renowned Tami hero, and surprisingly turned out to be a big hit. For all the people who really loved the movie, there is some good news. Maan Karate is being remade in Telugu with the new name ‘Thuntari’ and is directed by Kumar Nagendra.

Many experts believe that for the Telugu remake, Kumar Nagendra could have used the same script that was used by AR Murugadoss in the original film. And true, it would have been a very safe choice. However, it is important that filmmakers today understand that the tastes and sensibilities of film audiences in Tamil Nadu and Andhra-Telengana vary greatly and these sensibilities often dictate the different ways of filmmaking down south. To please the Telugu audience, the original film had to be modified in more than one way. This is why director Kumar Nagendra met up with AR Murugadoss to discuss the film and to get a few crucial inputs that would help him make the film ideally suited for Telugu audiences and cater to their taste. One of the things that Murugadoss advised Kumar Nagendra about is the love story.

Nagendra had to alter the entire track which, in spite of being too thin for Kollywood audiences was too much in bulk for Telugu film lovers. According to Kumar Nagendra, many changes were made to the climax and emotional scenes in the film, simply in order to ensure that their proper impact is maintained and the overall quality of the film is not hampered. The duration of the film, however, has been shortened. The original Tamil version of Maan Karate was around one hundred and sixty minutes long. However, a film that lengthy might not be able to hold the attention of the Telugu audience for such a long period of time consistently. Hence, Kumar had to cut down the remade version to only one hundred and twenty minutes. Actress Latha Hegde is playing the role of the main female lead in the remade film while Hansika Motwani wowed the audience in the original one. The character that was portrayed by Vamsi Krishnan in the Tamil version of Maan Karate will be played by Kabir Duhan Singh in Thuntari. The film releases on 11th of this month. It can be expected that like Maan Karate, Thuntari would also not fail to impress movie lovers.
