Overview

Popularly called DSP, Devi Sri Prasad is a music devil and a power house of energy. He brought in a new wave of freshness in to Telugu cinema music and also tried his hand in writing lyrics and playback singing.

  • Personal Life

    Devi Sri Prasad is the son of popular script writer, G.Satya Murthy. He was born in Vedurupaka, East Godavari District. His family moved to Chennai after his father became busy in films. Devi completed his schooling and BBA there itself.

     

  • Career

    Devi Sri Prasad’s grandmother, Devi Meenakshi was a classical musician and was Devi’s first guru. He used to learn Kabir Dohas and compose his tunes for them. He later learnt Carnatic music from renowed Mandolinist U.Srinivas. He used to score music for all the functions in his school and college. His first break came from TV. When he composed music and lent voice for '50-50'. Later his song ‘Ey Unnoda’ was featured in Magnasound's collection of Tamil pop songs called ‘Dance Party’. This song and its video became very popular and the company went on to do a complete album 'Mr.Devi' with him.

    Producer MS Raju was quick to spot his talent and thus came his first filmy assignment in the form of Devi, a mythological movie. The album is popular till date and the songs are still being played in all the temples across the state. Later on Anandham and Kalusukovalani got him good recognition and there is no looking back after the success of Khadgam and Manmadhudu.
    The biggest Milestone in his career came in 2003 with MS Raju’s Varsham. The success of the album is so big that many critics and audience attribute the success of the movie to Devi’s music.  Devi later on scored music for MS Raju’s Pournami, Aata, Nuvvosthanante Nenodhantana. All of them were big hits.

    In the same year, he created a rage in youth with his ‘Aa ante Amalapuram’ and ‘Feel My Love’ songs in Allu Arjun’s Aarya movie. The song was later reused in Bollywood movie, Maximum. Allu Arjun and DSP’s combination proved to be special always. They teamed up for Bunny, Aarya-2 and Julayi – all of them are super hits. Ringa Ringa song from Aarya-2 attracted the attention of Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan and it was used in his Ready movie as ‘Dhinkachaka’. 
    In 2004, even more surprises were in store for him. He got the opportunity to score music for Megastar Chiranjeevi’s movie, Shankar Dada MBBS. Later on he scored music for Chiranjeevi’s Andarivaadu, Shankar Dada Zindabad.  He also bagged a chance to score music for Junior NTR for the first time and went on to do 4 movies with him till date - Naa Alludu, Rakhi, Adhurs, Oosaravelli.
    In 2006, he scored music for Siddharth’s Bommarillu. The movie went on to become the biggest hit that year and is still the biggest hit in Siddharth’s career. Needless to say, all the six songs in the movie were chartbusters and helped a lot for the movie success.
     
    2007 witnessed one of the rarest music sensations in recent times. The album of Pawan Kalyan’s Jalsa was instant hit with youth and the music company raked in a moolah with this album. He later scored music for Pawan Kalyan’s Gabbar Singh and Attarintiki Daredhi – Both the albums were big hits too.

    Tamil Stint:
    In 2008, he was chosen to score the background music for Kamal Hassan’s Dashavataram and this opportunity paved way for his Tamil stint and is currently one of the busiest music directors there. He scored music for all most all the big stars there.
